Damian Rebgetz

Biography

 

Damian Rebgetz was born in Darwin in 1978. He studied classical singing (Old Conservatorium of Music) and music theatre (West Australian Academy of Performing Arts). Since 2007 he has lived in Berlin and completed his MA in Sound Studies at the University of the Arts Berlin in 2010 and was awarded the “Elsa-Neumann-Stipendium des Landes Berlin”. He has worked in various music theatre performances in Germany and Switzerland including with directors Ruedi Häusermann (“Gang zum Patentamt”) and Anna-Sophie Mahler (“Poor Tony Krause – Unendlicher Spaß”); in the theatre installations of Dominic Huber (“Warten auf die Barbaren” and “Hotel Savoy”); and as a guest performer with the performance collective Gob Squad (“Western Society”).

His music theatre performances for theatre and public space investigate sound phenomena and hearing practices inspired by the combination of autobiography, science and fiction. These include the music theatre solo “Something for the Fans” (Impulse Festival / HAU Hebbel am Ufer 2013); the sound walk performances “Heartbreakers Reunion Tour” (klangstaetten-stadtklaenge Festival Braunschweig 2012/13) and “To cross the house” (House of World Cultures Berlin 2009); and the surround sound performance lecture “Voice Box – That thing in your throat” (Hundert Grad Berlin / Ars Electronica Festival 2012). He has also created sound installations and performances for X-Apartments Slovakia 2013, Neuköllner Oper, SingUhr Hörgalerie, Club Transmediale and CrelleTon Galerie.
