Dimitri Hegemann sees himself as a space researcher and is a Berlin cultural manager as well as the founder and owner of the techno club Tresor, which opened in Leipziger Strasse in 1991. At the same time he founded a techno label to go along with it, Tresor Records. Tresor has contributed to an ongoing connection with Detroit musicians such as Mike Banks and Jeff Mills. Hegemann is engaged in the “Detroit-Berlin-Connection”, an initiative striving to expand cultural collaboration between the two cities. One of its goals is to give something back to the artists that have been so significant for Tresor’s success. After several conferences in Detroit and Berlin his Detroit plans including expanding the opening hours for nightlife in the city as a basis for a lively club landscape and enlivening the city’s cultural attractiveness by realizing the Packard Plant project. Hegemann believes in the power of a nighttime economy, which is an essential part of what makes Berlin so attractive to young people.
