Hans-Thies Lehmann contributed substantially to establishing and shaping the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen. He also built up the department of theatre, film and media studies in Frankfurt am Main, where he founded the masters programme in dramaturgy. He remained professor of theatre studies at the Goethe University in Frankfurt until 2010. In addition, he has held many international teaching positions. His publications include works on Brecht, on questions of contemporary theatre, and on the theory and aesthetics of theatre, including “Theater und Mythos” (1991), “Postdramatic Theatre” (1999, English 2006), “Das politische Schreiben” (2002) and “Theater in Japan” (co-editor, 2006). His book “Tragödie und dramatisches Theater” was published by Alexander Verlag in 2013.
