Helene Varopoulou

Biography

Helene Varopoulou was born in 1945 on Cephalonia. She is the most important translator of Heiner Müller into Greek. Since 1974 she has served as the theatre and art critic for a variety of Greek and international newspapers and has curated a number of art exhibitions. From 1984-1992 she was the head of the Greek division of the International Theatre Institute (ITI). In 1992 she founded the festival Argos/Peloponnes, which she directed until 1997. She has been a visiting professor at various universities in Greece and Germany.
