Jan Martens

Biography

Jan Martens, born in 1984, studied dance at the Royal Conservatoire of Dance at Artesis Hogeschool in Antwerp, and at the Fontys Dance Academy in Tilburg. Since his graduation in 2006 he has danced for various companies in Belgium and abroad, including United-C, cie 13, Nat Gras, Koen De Preter and Ann Van den Broek. Since 2009 he has also been creating work of his own, e.g. “Speeltijd” for Nat Gras, a dance performance for children of 8 and over. May 2010 saw the premiere of his first full-length work, “I can ride a horse whilst juggling so marry me”. After the appearance at Seine-Saint-Denis his 2011 production “a small guide on how to treat your lifetime companion” was selected by Aerowaves, an international programme for the stimulation of young choreographers. In 2013 Jan Martens is artist in residence at ICK, International Choreographic Arts Centre in Amsterdam (NL).
