Jeck Kurniawan Siompo Pui was born in Jayapura, the provincial capital of Papua, Indonesia.As a child he learned Traditional dance at Rawori Dok 8 Bawah, Jayapura, then in 1994 he went to study dance at Jakarta Arts Institute (IKJ). In 1999 he was offered a chance to learn more about dance particularly Hip Hop in Portland, Maine (USA) and then got scholarship from the Goethe-Institut Jakarta to study dance at Folkwang Tanz Studio in Germany. With his very own signature style, the “Animal Pop”, he has created a great number of pieces since 1995, including “Emmo” (2012), “We Came From the East” (2011-Supported by Kampnagel, HAU, Esplanade, and Goethe Institut Jakarta), “Betamax to DVD” (2009), “What Existed” (2009), “Behind Is In Front” (2008), to name but a few. He has shown his works on several international festivals such as Zoo300 in Kampnagel Hamburg and Aichi Dance Triennale Japan in 2013, SIDance Festival Korea in 2010, Regional Dance Summit at Goethe-Institut Jakarta in 2009, at the Singapore Arts Festival and ConversAsians at Esplanade Singapore Nooderzon Festival Netherland, Theater Spektakel Zurich and Tanz Im August Berlin in 2009, where he met German Hip-Hop artist Kadir “Amigo” Memis. Furthermore he has toured extensively in Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hongkong, Australia, Russia, Denmark, Germany, France, USA and all over Indonesia.
