Marcus Thomas

Biography

Born in Riesa, Saxony. Education in cultural and music studies with a further concentration in the area of sound studies. Central to his studies was his engagement with sound, soundscape research, electro-acoustic and New Music as well as contemporary music theatre productions. The experimental, creative use of sound and space and the search for new noises and possibilities for producing sound are always at the core of his works. His own artistic works range from sound installations, concerts for prepared instruments and soundscape compositions to artistic radio features and radio plays. He works as a musician/performer/composer and sound artist for various film, theatre and opera projects. He has also directed his own pieces, including with the music theatre collective bruit! Their production “es glaubt es rauscht” won the jury prize at the 100° Festival 2012 at HAU Berlin. He lives and works in Berlin.
