Omar Kasmani grew up in Karachi (Pakistan) and has been living in Berlin since 2010. He graduated with a bachelor’s in architecture in Karachi and a master’s in Muslim Cultures from the Aga Khan University in London. Following this he did his doctorate at the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology at the FU Berlin, where he currently has a postdoctoral position in the Collaborative Research Centre “Affective Societies.” Aside from his academic work, Kasmani was co-curator of the exhibition “Framing Muslims” at Humboldt University in Berlin and has collaborated on cultural projects such as Vierte Welt Berlin. His practice, both creative and academic, lies at the intersections of gender, queer subjectivities and the politics of Muslim religious devotion.
