Sasha Perera is a singer, songwriter, producer and DJ. She was born and raised in London, then moved to Berlin in 2000. She studied German and political science, and even in her youth she was deeply influenced by the programming of London pirate radio stations, the Notting Hill Carnical, Jamaican sound system music culture such as dub, ragga, jungle, and UK garage as well as by the hybrid electronic music of Warp Records. Starting in 2004, together with the WMP Club in Berlin, she organized the series “Grimetime”, inviting grime and dubstep artists, which contributed significantly to forming the style of what has now become established as the Berlin bass music scene. With Robot Koch and Oren Gerlitz she founded the band Jahcoozi, one of the earliest bass music projects in Germany. Her musical collaborations have included Modeselektor, Anti Pop Consortium and Gonjasufi. In 2013 she released her widely-praised first solo album “Everlast” as Perera Elsewhere, and she DJs under the name Mother Perera. In 2015 Perera was a guest at HAU Hebbel am Ufer at Plattenspieler with Thomas Meinecke.
