Mark Terkessidis

Biography

Mark Terkessidis, born in 1966, is a writer and journalist who works on pop culture and migration. He lives in Berlin and Cologne. After studying psychology in Cologne he got his doctorate in pedagogy in Mainz with a thesis on racism. Terkessidis has published on the topics of youth and pop culture, migration and racism in “tageszeitung”, “Die Zeit”, “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, “Freitag”, “Tagesspiegel”, “Literaturen”, “Texte zur Kunst”, etc. as well as for “Westdeutschen Rundfunk”, “Radio Bremen” and “Deutschlandfunk”. From 1992 to 1994 he was an editor at the magazine “Spex”, from 2003 to 2011 he worked as a moderator for “Funkhaus Europa”. Since 2012 Mark Terkessidis has been a lecturer at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and, together with Jochen Kühling, is project director of “Heimatlieder aus Deutschland”. His books “Interkultur” and “Kollaboration” appeared on edition suhrkamp in 2010 and 2015 respectively. With Jochen Kühling he has been project manager of “Heimatlieder aus Deutschland” since 2012.
