Natasha A. Kelly

Biography

Natasha A. Kelly holds a doctorate in communications studies and sociology, and specialises in (post) colonialism and feminism. Born in London and raised in Germany, she regards herself as an “academic activist”, always combining theory and practice. She expresses this both in and through the arts. In addition, she has taught at numerous private and public institutions in Germany, Austria, and the USA and has been active in the black community for many years. The award-winning documentary “Millis Erwachen” was her film debut at the 10th Berlin Biennale in 2018, her directorial debut in 2019 was the international performance of her dissertation thesis “Afrokultur” in three countries and three languages. Her latest publications include “Rassismus, Strukturelle Probleme brauchen strukturelle Lösungen” (Atrium Publishing House April 2021), “Schwarzer Feminismus. Grundlagentexte” (Unrast Publishing House 2019), and “The Comet. Afrofuturism 2.0” (Orlanda Publishing House 2020). Since 2015, in cooperation with HAU Hebbel am Ufer, she has organised the event series “M(a)y Sister” in honour of the Afro-German artist and activist May Ayim.
