Wen Hui

Biography

Wen Hui is a choreographer, dancer and documentary filmmaker and a pioneer of Chinese contemporary dance theater. She graduated in choreography from Beijing Dance Academy in 1989 and studied modern dance in New York in 1994. Together with filmmaker Wu Wenguang, she founded China's first independent dance theater group, Living Dance Studio. Wen Hui's works experiment with how physical memories catalyze the collision between history and reality. In 2021, she received the official Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Goethe Medal.
