Once again, the “Introducing” series is the main focus of Performing Arts Festival Berlin. The theatres Ballhaus Ost, HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Sophiensæle and TD are teaming up to present Berlin audiences with exciting, new artists working in the city. At HAU3, Camila Malenchini and Marga Alfeirão will present their successful production “Wet Eyez”. In this performance, the two dancers approach the figure of Blemias, who, according to myth, was spotted by the first European settlers on the American continent. This headless creature with a mouth and eyes on its chest reflects how pre-colonial Europe saw and constructed otherness. Malenchini and Alfeirão merge past and present mythical creatures in a poetic landscape, moving through the European imagination of otherness and speculating on the power of a headless body.
Marga Alfeirão explores intimacy and sexuality through dance and performance, heavily influenced by the dances and music of the African diaspora in Lisbon. Camila Malenchini is an Argentinean artist and dancer whose practice crosses diverse media, looking to art as a tool for dislocating and questioning realities. Wet Eyez is part of their extended research on decolonized and dehierarchized practices and of their shared experience of southerness.
