“The Omer Count” is a citywide cycle of springtime events that explore the potential of Jewish traditions for contemporary dramaturgies. “The Omer Count” describes the Jewish tradition to count the days between Pessach, the Israelites’ exodus from slavery in Egypt, and Shavu’ot, the receiving of the ten commandments. What happens in this gap between the departure into the unknown and the reception of the Torah, the document of the guidelines and ethical foundations of society? How are relationships negotiated, changes re-evaluated? The 49 days between Passover and Shavuot hold the question of what it means to be a community and what it needs to become a society. These and more questions are discussed by longtime collaborator and anthropologist Romm Lewkowicz and Jewish Studies scholar Yael Attia.
