With great eloquence, the theatre maker Einar Schleef controls his own language, for language means maturity, means guilt, means individuality. A chorus – indifferent in gender and size – ploughs through the spoken, searching for a way to transfer its own identity. In his diaries Schleef works on memory. “Today is speaking. I have never thought so much about why the body tortures me, oppresses me, how the speaking inside me chokes me. Now come the setbacks. I can barely be understood,” it says there. A new multiplicity is constructed and deconstructed in the staccato of word and movement. And what if identity formation is left out? If disturbance is the goal? “Tarzan rettet Berlin” transfers the special “Schleef chorus” into 2019. The texts cooperate with speakers from the here and now. A chorus that resists any attribution and any labelling, as the condition of coming together, as mouthpiece and event.
