Disabled Theater

With English translation /  Swiss German /  90 min.

“Disabled Theater,” which HAU presented on the occasion of its re-opening in 2012 and which has been invited to Berliner Theatertreffen in 2013, comes back to Berlin after 180 shows in more than 20 countries for the two last performances.

In his piece, the choreographer Jérôme Bel works with mentally disabled actors from the Theater HORA in Zurich. It creates a space where the marginalized are not excluded from visual and discursive practices, not hidden behind the protective shield of political correctness.

“With Disabled Theatre Bel throws a spotlight onto the dynamics of exclusion, which marginalises those who are seen as unproductive. He shows, how they, on the contrary, question the mechanisms of this representation and how they can point to existence as an undivided form of presence.” Chiara Vecchiarelli
