Artists and cultural institutions operate from within specific contexts that are shaped by various discourses and lived realities, and artistic work can be an impulse for a critique of social structures. It can open up spaces for imagining and reflecting on alternative social systems, and it can even bring utopian visions within reach. At the same time there are many gaps and unconscious mechanisms on structural, communicative and aesthetic levels that are in need of questioning and change. In our two topics “Changing the Narratives” and “Providing access” we question artistic practices and positions for a dissolution of discriminatory structures and mechanisms and consider a diverse, inclusive mediation of these.
