After “MONUMENT 0.1”, a fiction for the theatre stage, Tanz Im August 2016 presents “MONUMENT 0.2.”, a performance for the exhibition space. It welcomes the return of its performers: Valda Setterfield and Gus Solomons jr. They met in New York City in the early 1960s, a time when the avantgarde scene would gather in downtown Manhattan and reconfigure the forms of artistic experience, be it through ‘Happenings’, ‘Events’, or other such ‘Formats’ – a time when the modernist building of the Akademie der Künste in Berlin’s Tiergarten opened to the public. Almost sixty years later, the latter offers its space to the former. And invites the visitors to experience a journey through words and gestures, history and memory.
