Eye, Lash!

  • Dance
English /  Understandable without language /  approx. 75 mins.
On a stage, a person (Kat Válastur) stands in a puddle. The person twirls around with a long whip.
The dancer and choreographer Kat Válastur is lying on the floor. Several bouquets of flowers can be seen around her and she is illuminated by a spotlight.
The woman stands and raises her arms in the air.
A person with blond hair kneels and presses her face into a bouquet of flowers.
The dancer and choreographer Kat Válastur stands on the stage with the flowers and has a percussion instrument in her hand.

In an enchanted landscape made of flowers, metal tiles and water, the choreographer and performer Kat Válastur embodies different female archetypes and personas. The French medieval mystic Marguerite Porete, the character of Monkey, the daughter in Tarkovsky’s film “Stalker,” or the figure of Lady Jane Gray portrayed in a painting by Delaroche materialize in this ‘operatic’ confession about the construction of the self and identity. Kat Válastur dives into her personal movement archive and uses her imaginary and visual language to explore the kaleidoscopic experience of a female artist in contemporary times. With the help of the spirits of women of the past and present who have been oppressed, marginalized, abused, burned or decapitated she transforms the space into a zone, an enclosed world and potential home of magical power, charged with female transcendence and spirituality. The film version of “Eye, Lash!” was already released in March 2021 and now the show can finally celebrate its live premiere in Berlin in front of an audience.
