The Sea And Cake

  • Music

The Sea And Cake shoots for a conception of independent music that could get beyond the conventional sexual politics of rock’n’roll and its ritual formal language, including its emotionalizing rhetoric. The Chicago-based quartet led by the singer, writer and guitarist Sam Prekop positions itself in the tradition of the singer/songwriter. With playful ease they manage to integrate elements from jazz, bossa nova and African popular music into open structures, without the results ever sounding overly exerted or strained.
