“Rolling” brings together roughly 200 films in one performance. This minimal adaptation of film to theatre becomes a unique exploratory montage of acting, dance and sound. As in “Fassbinder, Faust and the Animists” – a great adaptation of Fassbinder’s film “Beware of a Holy Whore” – Michael Laub’s new project is a staged variation of film and theatre, reflecting their relationship in a complex compositional process. Instead of adapting a self-contained script for the stage, the director uses film scenes and citations ranging from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day, opening up potential new perspectives and narratives. In this choreographically precise piece with ten performers, it becomes clear what enormous influence the genre of film has had on the working practice of Laub as a pioneer of post-dramatic theatre
