Actually everything is just as it always was: Just as in the early adventures of the Berlin game theatre collective machina eX, the players explore interactive spaces, solve puzzles and navigate through history together. Only now something isn’t quite right. The game is broken. The game is unfinished. The game designer is distraught. This was supposed to be her big shot. Immersive, participatory, narrative, subversive – a ludo-hermeneutic earthquake! But however she spins it and turns it: The game is a disaster. In their new work machina eX take a look behind the scenes, inviting the audience to become part of the development process of a game. Questions are posed about power and control that go well beyond aesthetic discourse. How do we deal with control systems? And how can we come to an agreement with others about rules?
