Masha Qrella

Songbook – Concert

Doors 19:00 / Start 20:00

Masha Qrella has been an integral part of the Berlin music scene since the late 1990s. Whether with her early instrumental bands Mina and Contriva, with whom she created a Berlin version of post-rock at the same time as bands such as Tortoise or Stereolab, or with the punk rock formation NMFarner, but above all with her solo releases, in which she has reinvented herself again and again since 2002 with a stoic imperturbability and yet remained true to herself. On her new, now seventh album “Songbook,” the Berlin musician with the unmistakable voice once again leads us through cool, wistful atmospheres. Seemingly loose threads condense into an incredibly harmonious album. Whether electronic or solid analogue, baroque or indipop, cover version or original creation – her electro-pop always sounds new and, above all, unmistakably like Masha Qrella.

Qrella's association with HAU is the setting of literary texts to music: in 2016 it began with a text by Heiner Müller as part of the “HEINER MÜLLER!” festival, in 2019 it continued with the song “Arthur” based on diary texts by Einar Schleef as part of the “Erinnern ist Arbeit” programme and the music performance “Woanders,” based on texts by Thomas Brasch, which led to the album of the same name in 2021. Masha is now returning to the stage of HAU1 as part of the tour for her new album.
