Kadir "Amigo" Memis

Scha’irlie – This is not a Chaplin

  • Dance

The new project by the choreographer and dancer Kadir “Amigo” Memis is not only an homage to his great role model Charlie Chaplin, but also the story of his father’s life. He immigrated to the divided city of Berlin, where he was confronted with social marginalization and poverty as a migrant worker. Inspired by the famous film figure’s body language of, but also by his fascination for the works of the surrealist Magritte, Kadir Memis creates a performance with four dancers, playfully mixing hip hop dance style with contemporary dance.

Coproduction: HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Theaterhaus Stuttgart & tanzhaus nrw (Düsseldorf). Funded by the Hauptstadtkulturfonds Berlin.
