We are surrounded by more and more things. New cars, seasonal smartphones, chargers. Piles of clothes, mountains of rubbish, electronic waste. The amount of objects has now exceeded the number of all living things. The idea behind “1000 Things Falling” is very simple. Objects of all kinds fall from the flies onto the stage. When the one-thousandth object touches the floor, the play ends. Bravo, boo, curtain. But wouldn't the curtain then be thing #1001? And what about the air that is moved by the applause? What happens when we no longer accept the separation of animate and inanimate objects and see matter not as rigid and stable but as flexible and dynamic? Welcome to the world of funky quantum physics with vibrating strings and singing saws, and to the theatre for young climate activists and world contortionists. After “Die Schwarze Mühle”, the performance collective Showcase Beat Le Mot is back at HAU1 with their new production, which is also geared towards younger audiences.
