SISTERQUEENS

“We are a mosaic, the result is a crown” (Orginal: “Wir sind ein Mosaik, das Ergebnis ist ne Krone” / “Rebel” SISTERQUEENS feat. Alice Dee).

Clear the stage for the SISTERQUEENS. With their lyrics, the young rappers speak loudly about what is going wrong, what surprises them, what they celebrate and where it should go.

What began in 2016 as a cooperation between the group Peira and the girls’ centre MÄDEA in Wedding has grown into a Berlin-wide mosaic by 2022. For over half a year, groups of girls from six districts approached rapping as an emancipatory practice together with the rappers Alice Dee, Haszcara, Leila A., MC Josh and Yetundey. The resulting songs take up space and make room for glittering mosaics, for voices with attitude and criticism of standardisation and superficiality.

Be prepared for an evening where the right of girls* and women* to rap, a still male-dominated music industry, is not negotiated for a moment, but doors are pushed open.

SISTERQUEENS was launched in 2018 as a platform for rap by girls from Berlin. The focus is to strengthen girls in their self-confidence and sense of justice or injustice, to try out rap with them as a form of artistic expression and to bring their positions and voices onto the stage.

Peira's projects with the Sisterqueens have already won numerous awards; the young female rappers have already played music in the House of Representatives, at the HAU neighbourhood party, at the opening of the Heizhaus in the Uferstudios, at the Popkultur Festival and on the streets of Berlin.
