Agnieszka Polska

The Talking Car

  • Theatre
English /  With German surtitles /  approx. 75 mins.

A car is racing towards an abyss for ninety minutes. Climate collapse? The end of humanity? Or is it going to a hospital, for a child to be born? Visual artist Agnieszka Polska, awarded the renowned Preis der Nationalgalerie in Berlin, brings her first production to the stage. It is as unusual as it is magnetizing – a hypnotic science fiction road trip. A group of people tries find a way out of the autonomously driving vehicle that never stops. The performers explore a variety of roles, genres and emotional states. They are accompanied by a singing, large-scale digital puppet, observing their struggles with tender curiosity. While landscapes rush by, the atmospheric music revolves around the fatal relationship between man and machine. The actors are trapped inside the machine and a tale develops about one’s role in the complex system combining human and nonhuman agents and socio-technological infrastructures.
