In a visual installation by Nadia Lauro
Two generations of choreographers/performers meet: Antonia Baehr and Bettina Blanc Penther, calling on the figure of the butch dyke. Is the butch dyke an anachronistic figure, a timeless character, or does she belong to the future? In other words, how can this figure provoke reflections on time, open cracks in its fabric, and rearrange the dominant narratives of a personal, cultural, and social history? With “Silver Butch and Baby Butch” the duo navigates through different temporalities, such as the topos of the ‘last lesbian bar’, or the lumberjack shirt, marker of a butch dyke identity that spans the ages. The two characters knot thread, knit times, dance about, pat each other on the back to the rhythm of their hiccups and a soundscape created by Diane Blondeau’s, all admist a visual installation by Nadia Lauro. The devil is always part of the pattern.
