The four-day festival presents new and hybrid projects that are usually confined to the virtual world. Artists, academics, designers, journalists, and curators examine what the labor of sound is in the modern digital world today.
The evening at HAU Hebbel am Ufer travels through multimedia infused music performances. In the construction of something that is all at once a physical tribute, a manifestation of multimedia dualism, and a consuming environment, the evening provides a springboard for the exploration of the blurred lines between contemporary art and music practices. This relationship raises challenging and specific inquiries regarding the musical object in the 21st century. There will be a unique stage design by the art collective Aurora Sander supplying an extension to the themes of new consumerism and capitalism. As we re-evaluate the importance of live performances, the evening provides a survey of contemporary music in light of recent developments in the way music makers and artists deploy their multimedia. Participating artists include ADR and Colin Self, Dafna Maimon, Fawkes, Lawrence Lek, Nile Koetting, Oliver Coates, and Vipra.
Alongside the events at HAU Hebbel am Ufer, OHM, Südblock, and Vierte Welt, 3hd Festival would like to offer its users an extensive online experience consisting of essays, interviews, websites and exclusive tracks. The goal is to reflect on innovative sounds, analyze international developments in contemporary music culture, and give artists a space to showcase their work. Therefore we will provide a program in order to include every user, IRL and URL. The concept of a label magazine festival; all in one. Thus the traditional festival themes and Internet music aesthetics transform into a festival 2.0.
