Ebony Bones

  • Music

Ebony Bones stands for cross-genre musical ecstasy as a political issue. In her interpretation of avant-garde pop the artist, who grew up in London, combines experimental jazz with an Afrofuturist emphasis – postpunk with driving bass, jungle and dub blend with components from club music. In 2009 she wrote, produced and released her song "We Know All About U", which she followed up with two very successful studio albums and cooperations with the art and fashion worlds, as well as with artists like Yoko Ono. Ebony Bones is constantly on the lookout for new approaches to production aesthetics. For her new studio album “Nephilim” she worked with non-European classical orchestras to question the image of male-white dominance in the classical genre. Using gloomy-dystopian lyrics the artist deals with post-colonial, historical and feminist topics and the increasing nationalisms in the post-Brexit or Trump era. Her live shows are legendary, her energetic stage presence is underscored by costumes with a brightly coloured aesthetic. She insists on the responsibility of artists to exert their influence on social discourse in times of increasing nationalisms: “This is my personal vow as a woman of colour: never to remain apathetic, never to look away.” (Ebony Bones in Missy Magazine 04/18)

Party at WAU

Choice DJ*s from the queer-feminist scene invite everyone to the party in WAU to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Missy:

Nedalot plays R&B and electronic genres, deconstructing hip hop and pop into complex sound collages. Her music cannot be reduced to any genre. With her artistic mixes she has made herself a name as support for artists such as Diplo, A.G. Cook and Zebra Katz.

Bianca Kruk has been filling the queer-feminist scene for years with her bass-dance-lunatic-disco music.

Hengameh Yaghoobifarah is an editor at Missy Magazine and an important figure in the queer-feminist of colour scene in Berlin. She plays hip hop, R&B, pop, Eurodance and Middle Eastern pop, combining diasporic longings with nostalgic sounds from the teenage years and current hits.
