A plastic tarp, water, naked bodies, silence. In Lia Rodrigues’s current production “Pindorama” the waves of the tarp are transformed into a wild ocean, in which the bodies are caught up like vacuum-packed detritus, becoming flotsam. In the language of the Tupí, “Pindorama” is the original name of Brazil, before its colonisation. The eleven dancers of the Companhia de Danças seek out a physical equivalent for the natural landscape. Lia Rodrigues from Rio de Janeiro is a central figure of contemporary dance in Brazil. After an absence of eight years, Lia Rodrigues now returns to Berlin with a new production at HAU Hebbel am Ufer.

Co-production: Théâtre Jean Vilar de Vitry-sur-Seine with the Festival d’Automne à Paris, Théâtre National de Chaillot, La Briqueterie/CDC du Val-de-Marne, King’s Fountain, Kunstenfestivaldesart copresented by the Kaaïtheater (Brussels), Hellerau – European Center for the Arts (Dresden).

Created as part of a long-term residency with Théâtre Jean-Vilar de Vitry-sur-Seine, supported by the Conseil Régional d’Ile-de-France.

Lia Rodrigues Companhia de Danças is being supported by Petrobras and Ministério da Cultura do Brasil as part of Petrobrás Cultural program – support to the company and the creative process 2012/2013 – in partnership with Redes da Maré.

Latest information for arrival:

There is currently a construction site on Hallesches Ufer between Wilhelmstraße and Möckernbrücke underground station. There is a divided replacement route for pedestrians (right) and cyclists (left), which are separated by a yellow ground line. The carriageway is narrowed to one lane.

Travelling to HAU2 via U Hallesches Tor:

If you are coming from Hallesches Tor underground station, you will have to use an alternative footpath from Wilhelmstraße / Hallesches Ufer junction, which is separated from the carriageway by a construction fence – the actual footpath is currently closed. Please note: the alternative route is also used by cyclists. Pedestrians should keep to the right. We therefore currently recommend that visually impaired or blind visitors come to the HAU with an accompanying person.

Arrival HAU2 via U Möckernbrücke:

When you leave Möckernbrücke underground station, please stay on the footpath on the canal side until you reach Hallesches Ufer / Großbeerenstraße junction – the opposite side is currently closed due to construction work.
