Manifestos for Queer Futures

In June 2019, HAU Hebbel am Ufer organizes an interdisciplinary festival in all three houses, which presents various artistic positions on queer past, present, and future. With the festival program, we want to consider both the political and the artistic past in order to search for utopian scenarios and actively shape the queer present at the same time.
As part of the festival, HAU Hebbel am Ufer is initiating an open call for artists based in Berlin. We invite artists to submit proposals for a manifesto that expresses their vision for a Queer Future.
Queerness can be understood as a way of shaping a future, a future which is always in progress. This time yet to come is characterized by individuals and their everyday realities, which, already now, bear the potential of a queer futurity. José Esteban Muñoz writes: “Queerness is not yet here. Queerness is an ideality. Put another way, we are not yet queer. We may never touch queerness, but we can feel it as the warm illumination of a horizon imbued with potentiality. […] Queerness is essentially about the rejection of a here and now and an insistence on potentiality or concrete possibility for another world.”
The team of HAU will choose twenty-five of the proposed manifestos. The selected manifestos will be presented on the stage of HAU2 during the week following June 17, 2019. These presentations will be part of the festival program.
The proposal should include a short project description (max. 1500 characters) and a short CV. The manifesto should take a performative form, either through text, movement or music, and should last no longer than 10 minutes. We will produce digital versions of the manifestos and
present them on our website.
Alongside an honorarium (1500 Euro), HAU also provides technical and artistic support.

The final selection will be announced in the beginning of March 2019.
