Phantasm and Politics #6

with Alice Creischer, Oliver Marchart, Simon Sheikh, Sarah Vanhee, Joanna Warsza u.a.

Moderation: Helmut Draxler

  • Dialogue

The term ‘public sphere’ is a central reference point for political art, which seems to contain several phantasmatic conceptions at once. It posits a framework that allows its protagonists to overcome the limiting structures of bourgeois institutions. And it promises a form of political effectiveness that stands in diametric opposition to the contemplative reception of aesthetic experience. The sixth episode of the discussion series “Phantasm and Politics” deals with conceptions and experiences of the “public sphere” as they currently appear in political, artistic and theoretical practices.
